China Beijing Travel

For those looking for a truly outstanding cultural experience while still enjoying modern day comforts China is a destination that will whisk you into a new and colorful world while still providing the conveniences you are looking for. If there is one city to be recommended to provide this experience alone, Beijing would be that city.

Beijing, formerly known as Peking, is the capitol of the Peoples Republic of China and is the number one tourist destination within China. This second largest city in the country offers a little bit of everything you could ask for in touring China, with the essential comforts of home, too.

China Beijing travel is such a popular choice because you can see the modern metropolis while also exploring some of the ancient architecture and buildings. If you book a vacation that includes a Beijing travel package, you will find that there is plenty to interest you for days.

Beijing is situated in a place that is convenient to a number of historic sites. For example, Tiananmen Square, the largest public square in the world lies within the city. You can observe the daily flag raising ceremony there and visit the National Museum of China.

The Simatai Great Wall is a 19 kilometer long portion of the wall that is divided into two parts, east and west. The west section is gentle and has many intact watchtowers. The east, however is extremely steep and treacherous in places. It is so challenging that there is a yearly wall climbing tournament here. Bricks on this part of the wall are marked with the date they were made and the number of the army that laid them. It is considered the best preserved portion of the wall.

Another major attraction is the Forbidden City. This city was built within Beijing during the 1400s as a home for rulers of China. Its name comes from the fact that only the rulers and their servants were allowed in. Ten meter high walls surrounded the palaces and outside of the walls was a moat,

During a recent trip to China, my husband and I were able to view the Imperial palaces and gardens of the Ming and Qing dynasties. Construction began in 1406 and was completed fourteen years later. For over 500 years, 24 emperors ruled from the confines of this city. The palaces were fully walled on four sides by 10-meter-high walls, 7,236 kilometers in circumference. Outside the walls, a 52-meter-wide moat with a length of 3.8 kilometers surrounds the city. Only the rulers of China and their servants were allowed within the city. Anyone else coming into or leaving the city had to have the emperors permission.

These are just a few of the sites that can be visited during China Beijing travel. If youre heading to China, dont miss out on this fantastic city and all that it contains within and nearby for you to see.
