Lesser Known China Attractions You Shouldnt Miss
If you are heading to China or have been there before you likely are aware of the top tourist attractions, the Forbidden City, the Great Wall, the Terracotta Warriors, Shanghai etc. These are definitely must-sees for the first time visitor to China, but there are many other China attractions that you should also be aware of.
NATURE
Certainly China has a rich history and culture, but the land itself tells its own beautiful story. River Cruises are a great way to take in so much of the beauty of nature along such stunning rivers as the Yangtze and the Li. You can visit Panda in the wild in the Bifengxia Panda Reserve or the Chengdu Panda Base and Sanctuary. If you enjoy exerting yourself out of doors, try a hiking or biking tour!
The Great Wall offers amazing scenic views from every angle. You can see the countryside in its natural beauty at all time of the year. You might also want to see the majestic beauty of the terraced rice paddies in Xijang. You can even make a trip to Mount Everest or another of Chinas beautiful mountains such as the Yellow Mountain.
You might not think of China as much of a tropical haven, but there are beaches along its coast that are simply beautiful with clear water and even coconut plantations! Tianya Haijiao and Dadonghai, both in Hainan province are two excellent examples of where you can have a Hawaii like experience in China!
RELIGIOUS
Of course the country is covered in religious sites to be visited. The Temple of Heaven and many others are located in or near the major cities of China. However, the country contains many Taoist, Confucianist and Buddhist temples can be found in breathtaking backgrounds off the beaten path.
Of course it is not a good idea to skip all of the major attractions in favor of only the lesser known treasures, unless you have visited before. There is a reason people choose those select attractions to see, however China really does have a lot more to offer.
There is definitely something for everyone in China. Because the country is so expansive, you need to choose carefully what you see. Keep in mind that you will not be able to see everything that you want to. Even if you lived in China with an unlimited budget, it would be difficult to see everything in a few years!
If your reason for seeking lesser known attractions is to avoid too many crowds, be sure to take into consideration the time of year that you take your trip. You will be surprised at the best time of year to visit some places but be aware that the seasons are different for different tours or attractions.
